        | Filhaal is the next release on surrogate
motherhood after "Doosri Dulhan" and " Chori Chori Chupke Chupke".
This film is all about friendship, love and marriage. The four main characters in this
film are Rewa (Tabu), Dhruv (Sanjay Suri), Sia (Sushmita Sen) and Saahil (Palash Sen). The
        story revolves around Rewa |

        |

            |
 | and Sia who are bosom friends to say the
least. They are extremely fond of each other but are very different in their views towards
life. Whereas Rewa is romantic, feels marriage and kids are essential in one's life, Sia
believes that career is more important than anything else.
Rewa's dreams come true when she meets Dhruv who is a gentle

each other and get married. Meanwhile, at Sia's end there is Saahil, who again is a soft,
sensitive man deeply in love with Sia. He has expressed his feelings for her innumerable
times despite being rejected each time. Dhruv and Rewa settle in Mumbai leaving Sia behind
in Delhi. The couple look forward to having a baby and after several hurdles, Rewa becomes
pregnant. Their happiness is short lived when Rewa has a miscarriage and the doctors
inform her that she should not |

        |

            | try for a baby again as she has a weak
uterus. This shatters Rewa and her dreams. Who else but Sia comes to her rescue and tries
her desperate best to cheer her friend up but in vain. She realises that only way to give
happiness to her friend is to give her a baby and after consultation with doctors she
decides to bear Rewa and Dhruv's baby by lending her womb.
After a lot of hesitation, the couple agree but Saahil is shattered by this decision of
Sia. Things get even worse when Rewa becomes

        | jealous of Sia when she sees her husband's attention shifting
towards Sia who in turn is obliged to Sia for having made such a huge sacrifice. Sia too
starts getting possessive about the baby. Finally all turns out well , when Sia delivers a
healthy baby, hands it to the rightful owners and Saahil gets back to her.
Filhaal happens to be Meghna Gulzar's debut production. Though Filhaal is a sensitive
film, it fails to impress much due to its similarity in concept with "Chori Chori
Chupke Chupke" which is still fresh in the

 | minds of people. The film is extremely slow
paced and the heroes have nothing much to perform. The dialogues are average. But, it
would be unfair not to mention that Meghna has handled many dramatic sequences
brilliantly. Anu Malik's music has a few decent numbers like " Filhaal" sung by
Asha Bhosle ", Le Chale Doliyon Mein" and "Kyun baar baar" sung by
Alka Yagnik. Manmohan Singh's cinematography is spectacular and the outdoor locales have | |

        | been
        beautifully shot.
 Performance wise, Sushmita is better
than Tabu because of the strong role of hers. She is natural, bubbly and spontaneous. She
only needs to work on her dialogue delivery by making it a little fast. Tabu is competent
as usual. Sanjay Suri performs with ease and succeeds to impress. Unfortunately, Palash
Sen isn't all that good and needs to work on his acting skills badly.

Overall, Filhaal will appeal only to a few people and prove disappointing to the rest.
