SMELLS

Lunch Box To keep a lunch box or ice chest fresh smelling fresh clean in warm soapy water, then dry well. Next take a paper towel or a cotton ball and put some vanilla extract on it and lightly wipe the freshly cleaned interior and it will knock out odors and smell fresh for a long time.

Try putting a piece of white bread that has been soaked in white vinegar in the lunch box and close it up. Leave it closed overnight.

Smell of burnt food....

For a quick way to disperse the smoke.

Get a wet bath towel and swing it around the room for a few minutes.

It will disperse the smoke.

Once all the panic is over you will be left with a nasty smell. Even if it was just the toast that you burnt. To neutralize burnt food odors in the house, such as burnt toast, I mix 1/2 cup whole cloves with 2 cups water in a heavy duty sauce pan and bring to boil. Simmer cloves for 15-30 minutes. The house smells wonderful and the burnt odor is gone. Cloves can be kept in the pan inside the oven to keep oven fresh. The Cloves can be used again for up to one week simply by refreshing the water and bringing to a boil whenever needed.

Cook clean white cauliflower
Add a spoonful of vinegar to cooking water to make cauliflower white and clean.

Tips for Refrigerators

  • Allow hot food to cool before refrigerating.

  • Choose the right size for your needs.

  • Clear away the dust on the cooling coils at least once a year. This helps reduce the energy needed to cool the refrigerator.

  • Check the rubber seals (gaskets) for leaks - put a piece of paper at the doorway before closing the door & try pulling the piece of paper out. If it slips out easily then it's time to change the rubber lining.

  • Don't overload. Allow space for the cooling air to circulate around.

  • De-frost regularly. Ice built-ups prevents effective cooling.

  • The freezer works better when it's full.

  • If you're going away for a long holiday, try to clear the fridge & switch it off.

  • Place a thermometer (if it's not built-in) inside the fridge to check if the temperature within is kept between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius while the temperature of the freezer should be 18 degrees Celsius.
