Mast

Ram Gopal Verma's film generally creates a certain level of curiosity among viewers. He has always made films with a high degree of passion and devotion. The level of technical support he dreams for all his films are superior. But the recent film 'Mast' has a lot of drawbacks than plus points and some times you feel like wondering whether it is the same director who made such brilliant films like 'Sathya' and 'Rangeela'.

Ram Gopla Verma has targeted young audience for the film. Story is like a fairy tale told with a spectacular visual backup. But even then the film suffers because of the weak content. It has polish and gloss alright. But these elements in itself do not make a good film.

The story is about a student (Aftab) who has an obsession for a leading actress (Urmila Matondkar). Presented in a larger than life image. Since his parents do not approve of his obsession with the actress, the boy moves out of Pune and lands in Mumbai. His

intention is to meet his screen goddess. He works in restaurants close to the residence of the actress. He notices that the actress is beaten by her scheming uncle. He approaches the actress and asks her to flee with him to his home in Pune. How the actress falls for him takes form in the remaining part of the film.

Sandeep Chowta's Music is a high point 'Ruki Ruki Thi Zindagi' and 'Mast' have already become popular. Photography is excellent and the outdoor shooting in Australia and South Africa are breathtaking.

It looks as if good chemistry works between Urmila and Director Ram Gopal Verma. In many of Verma's films, Urmila looks glamourous and stunning. But in 'Mast' she goes two steps ahead. Aftab has given a good performance and justifies Verma’s confidence in him.

Despite all the technical finesses and good performance of leading artists, 'Mast' suffers because of its weak screenplay.
