Q. How has the LPG (Liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation)
policy affected the sector?
A. Earlier the competition was limited. Now in an open and liberalized economy it
is the question of survival of the fittest. Highly advanced technology which is coming in
due to globalisation is making the established infrastructure of many obsolete. So there
is a lack of technical competence in some cases. However, there is no generalisation.
There are some who are doing extremely well and still the contribution of SSI to our
exports is 40%.
