First Aid - Bleeding

  • Steps to control bleeding

1. The bleeding spot  has to be inspected properly in good light to check for any
foreign body like wood, a glass piece or a metal piece stuck in the wound,
remove it gently with finger or with forceps or tweezers.

2. If the wound is dirty and the foreign body can't be seen, catch the wound
under running water.  This will give the exact idea about the size of the wound.

3. After removing the foreign body and inspecting the wound, put a clean cloth
or dressing pad directly on the wound and apply direct pressure on the
   bleeding spot.

4. Put cotton wool on the bleeding spot and bandage it.  Give pressure from
outside the bandage for 10 to 15 minutes.
